What is Slow Made City

Slow Made City is an independent urban media outlet for specialty coffee, craft cacao, artisan products and conscious city living in Sofia. We cover people, places and rituals across four rubrics, and we work with brands through the Brand Residency model - co-authorship, not advertising.

Who we write for

Slow Made City is for people in Sofia who make their daily decisions more deliberately than average - what they eat, where they drink their coffee, how they start the morning, who makes the things they buy. Not a luxury lifestyle, not minimalism as an aesthetic. Rather it's attention to process and preferring meaning over speed.

Expected readers: home specialty-coffee enthusiasts, café owners and baristas, artisans (bakers, chocolatiers, beekeepers, fermenters), people in creative industries looking for quiet cafés to focus, and people who already know "slow" is a strategy, not just a pace.

What you find here

Four editorial rubrics:

  • Coffee Lab - everything specialty coffee: brew guides for V60, AeroPress, Chemex and home espresso; extraction and latte art theory; origin stories from Ethiopia, Colombia, Brazil; equipment reviews; interviews with roasters and baristas.
  • Cacao & Beyond - craft cacao and bean-to-bar chocolate: the process from bean to bar, Bulgarian craft makers, hot chocolate recipes, coffee and cacao pairings.
  • Artisan Map - the map of slow-made things in Sofia: artisan bread, craft fermentations, urban honey, syrups, tonics, producer profiles.
  • City Rituals - a guide for conscious city living: quiet cafés for work, themed Sofia walks, morning rituals, seasonal habits.

And a separate section, Brand Residencies, where brands partner with a specific editorial season - currently active: Rexona and Good Coffee Festival.

What makes us different

Brand Residency. An editorial model where a brand enters the media not as an advertiser but as a co-author of meaning - for one thematic season, with clear editorial rules, visible disclosure, and tone/angle control sitting with the editorial team. Not sponsored content, not native advertising. There's a dedicated piece on this at /en/what-is-brand-residency.

The short version: we don't believe an independent outlet can live on banner ads. We also don't believe one-off sponsored content is a solution. Brand Residency is a third path - built on long editorial work with a small number of brands that share our values.
